Curriculum Intent
At West Rise Junior School we inspire and empower enquiring minds and independent learners. We encourage a culture of high achievement, mutual respect and creativity.
Our school values creativity, resilience, rights respecting and enrichment. They underpin all that we do in school.
By adopting our values, children develop the skills, knowledge and experience to be confident citizens. They can speak up and are ready to tackle the barriers to reaching their goals.
We follow the National Curriculum and design our lessons to build resilient and creative learners. We provide a wide range of exciting, and inclusive opportunities. These engage and challenge across all aspects of learning.
We are a Rights Respecting school. Our curriculum and values:
- develop character
- encourage good mental health
- support positive outcomes
- enable pupils to live as responsible and effective members of the local and international community
Year group overviews
The links below show what each Year Group covers throughout the year.
You can read more about the national curriculum here or we can arrange for you to speak with a subject leader; please email the school office.
Spellings and Phonics - we use No Nonsense Spellings across the school to deliver a progressive spelling curriculum. For children that have yet to pass their KS1 phonics screening test, we use the No Nonsense Phonics programme.
Our staff have developed a progression of skills and knowledge. This helps learners to know and remember more. See the tabs below for the progression document for each subject.
