Science

At West Rise, we grow scientists who…

  • can use scientific language effectively to explain scientific processes
  • can ‘think like scientists’ to investigate questions that they have
  • increase awareness of how science is happening in the world around them
  • learn how science happens both naturally and through human intervention

We want children to develop a lifelong interest in the sciences. We give them opportunities to learn through systematic investigations.  This will encourage them to ask and answer scientific questions about the world around them.

As children progress through the year groups, they build on their scientific knowledge. They strengthen their skills in working scientifically. They develop greater independence in planning.

In order to answer a range of scientific questions, children carry out fair and comparative tests. At West Rise we provide opportunities that allow them to consolidate and retain science knowledge. This also reinforces key scientific vocabulary.
